Jan. 14

OMG today in class we learned the structure for the verb usage of comparing two things. It was the 不比 structure, called "bu(1) bi(3)" in Pinyin and pronounced "boobie" in English. With a stress on the "boo" part. The second Meng said it, we all started laughing. He didn't understand what was so funny, but it was difficult to explain it to him in a politically correct way, what boobie meant. So he ended up repeating it 4 or 5 times, each time with us laughing harder than before. Eventually he gave up, amused yet confused.
Then, we had a lecture from a man who was involved with creating the storyline for the movie we watched yesterday, "Hero." It was interesting but very slow-moving because the guy only knew Chinese (can't fault him for that), but it required a four-step process for every question.
1-Student asks question
2-Chen translates question into Chinese
3-Guest lecturer answers question in Chinese
4-Chen translates answer into English
It's like a really inefficient system for lecturing. It felt a little bit like the classic "watching paint dry" saying, but it wasn't bad. I ended up taking a nap afterwards that turned into a 3 hr nap. I woke up really confused at 8pm, and since I had a lot of studying to do, I went the routine route and got some dinner at estation (a cafe for foreign students that we grew to love and become obsessed with) and studied.
